Non-Black older men have historically been overrepresented in mainstream news coverage, including primetime cable TV programming. A new analysis from BMSG has found that little has changed, even in the weeks following major national events that call for Black voices, like the anniversary of George Floyd’s murder and the declaration of Juneteenth as a federal holiday. Our new report explores the depth of the disparity, especially for transgender people and older Black women.

Este documento describe el proceso de cuatro pasos de BMSG para planificar la acción política a través de los medios de comunicación, a este proceso lo llamamos los niveles estratégicos. El proceso se apega a la idea de que el mensaje nunca debe ser lo primero en lo que nos enfocamos. En lugar de eso el primer paso, y el más importante, es el desarrollar una estrategia general que apoye una campaña de acción política para cambiar políticas públicas. Las preguntas en esta hoja de trabajo te pueden ayudar a identificar la información que necesitas para ir avanzando y cuales son los siguientes pasos por tomar. Piensa en esta hoja como tu guía principal: tu estrategia mediática y tu estrategia de mensaje se derivan de esta estrategia general, de manera que todas tus acciones estén alineadas con tus metas de abogacía.

Perceptions of arguments in support of policies to reduce sugary drink consumption among low-income white, Black, and Latinx parents of young children

Research published in the American Journal of Health Promotion has found that Black and Latinx parents are more likely than white parents to voice support for interventions like sugary drink taxes that could help parents and communities improve children’s health. This finding is notable because it counters the “regressivity” arguments that public health advocates often face during campaigns to pass taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages.
