Over the past few years, numerous attempts to pass a soda tax have failed, but, ultimately, they helped paved the way for a victory in Berkeley. The media perpetuate a harsh stigma against male survivors of sexual assault. BMSG researcher Pamela Mejia explains that this gets reflected in the language journalists use to describe the assault: While female survivors are often described as victims of abuse, young men are often described as being in a sexual "relationship" with the perpetrator.
